    Project Description
The Tiemeyer Off-Channel pond project will improve the habitat and access for salmonid juveniles coho, steelhead & cutthroat for overwintering and summer rearing. the site is a 3,421 ft long wetland area off channel habitat.

The project is located in Jefferson Co., near the town of Clearwater. The site is in section 18, T24N R12W, WRIA 21.0024, 70 miles north of Hoquiam, WA. 3.5 miles from the confluence of the Clearwater River, where it meets the Queets River 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean.

The limiting factors include low dissolved oxygen levels, temperature, cover, and limited access to upper wetlands. The scope of work involves the restoration of wetlands by removing cedar spaults that constrict water flow through the channel. An excavator will be used to pull back the waste above the ordinary high water line. Removal of clay/silts and cedar waste will increase the pond depth, improving water quality, water quantity, and habitat for salmonids.

The pond edge will be lined with Typar fabric or bentonite to seal the pond and covered with soils. Revegetation with native plants will complete the project. The plants around the pond will provide bank stablilization and cover to regulate water temperature. Construction of a cedar plank control structure will be used to maintain and increase water depth throughout the wetland. The off channel habitat for salmonids will be increased significantly by providing access to one acre of additional wetland upstream of the project site.
